Hose Selection
The STAMP Method

Selecting the right hose for your application is obviously important…to make sure that you have thought about what you need in your hose
Use the “STAMPED” method for your selection process.

S = SIZE …what diameter do you need…keep in mind hose is sold by the inside diameter (ID).
So consider what equipment you are connecting the hose to and what your needs will be.

T = TEMPERATURE … Know the temperature of the environment in which the hose has to operate, as well as the temperature of the media being conveyed through the inside of the hose.

A = APPLICATION …How is the hose going to be used, consider not only what the application is now, but how that application may change in the future, i.e. number of hours used, are there any chemicals the hose will come in contact with, do they drag the hose through gravel, what are the bend characteristics required.

M = MEDIA … What is the media being conveyed through the hose? Is it abrasive, thus needing abrasion resistance in the construction of the hose? Is it an aggressive chemical that will attack the tube that calls for a more chemical resistance tube? Consider carefully all the different types of media that the hose will be used with.

P = PRESSURE … know what the pressure is … positive (PSI) or negative (In,Hg), vacuum.
What is working pressure, is it constant? Is there a start up surge?

E = EXTRAS …type of end connections, special clamps, spring guards, caps, plugs. Anything extra we need to know for a successful application.

D = DELIVERY …what is actual delivery requirement, if they need it same day versus a new problem application it changes the dynamics of what & how we respond.

Proper installation is crucial for operation, life and safety of hose assemblies and the equipment they may be installed on. Some factors to consider when installing a hose are:

Proper hose maintenance is critical to safe use and longevity of the hose assembly and the related equipment.
