A Die-Formed Ring is a packing ring of any style material, usually braided or twisted, cut to length and mechanically compressed into a forming die to remove all voids prior to being installed into a stuffing box. This process generally makes the ring much easier to install and reduces waste compared to a mechanic cutting a spool of packing into rings while working in the field.

The rings may be of all one material or used in a combination of styles to suite a specific application, such as an abrasive product being sealed.
