Also called Disc Spring or Conical Compression Washers
is a conical shaped disc that will deflect (flatten) at a given rate
is usually very high. Allowing the spring to produce very large
loads in a very small place. These springs offer high loads
with small deflections and self-damping. Normally used in
high spring load applications or vibration, thermal expansion,
relaxation and bolt creep problem areas. They are available
in different materials such as 1074 high carbon steel, 301
stainless steel, 17-7PH, H-13 tool steel, Inconel 718, 510
phosphor bronze and nickel plated.

PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Belleville springs are used in a variety of applications where high spring loads are required. They are particularly useful where vibration, differential thermal expansion, relaxation, and bolt creep are problems. Listed below are some areas of industrial application where belleville springs are used.

GENERAL FEATURES
Belleville Spring, Disc Spring, Conical Compression Washer are all names for the same type of spring. (see below)

ADVANTAGES

Belleville Springs offer a number of advantages:

Belleville Springs are used in a variety of applications where high spring loads are required. They are particularly useful where vibration, differential thermal expansion, relaxation, and bolt creep are problems.

A single Belleville Spring has a specific load and deflection. Belleville Springs in stacked arrangements provide increased load and / or deflection. Two springs stacked in parallel doubles the load of the single spring with no increase in deflection . Two springs stacked in series doubles the deflection of a single spring with no increases in load. The parallel - series combination results in the load of two springs and the deflection of two springs.

Belleville Springs can be used in four ways.

  1. Single, one spring
  2. Parallel, all springs stacked the same way to increase load
  3. Series, all springs stacked opposite each other to increase deflection
  4. Parallel-series, A combination of #2 and # 3

Load – deflection curves, which can be designed for applications ranging from linear to negative rates.
ID - Inside Diameter
OD - Outside Diameter
t - Thickness
h - Deflection
H - Overall Height
Fp - Rounded Edges
Load is The force in lbs. to "Push" the spring into the flat position.

INSTALLATION

Belleville Springs must be installed with the convex side facing the
bolt head or nut. In some applications a flat washer is used under
the OD of the Belleville Spring to help spread the load. If a flat
washer is used, the OD should be no smaller than the OD of
the Belleville Spring, and the flat washer should be thicker than
the Belleville Spring.
